That last post really wasn't the best ever. I had some thoughts in my head that it seems I was only able to dance around, and never really get at squarely. But still, in the vague circling I kind of created a silhouette of what I had on my mind, and it seemed like I had made my point in a bass-ackwards kind of way. So I went ahead and stuck the paragraphs up on the blog.
I have a lot of personal guidelines for what makes a good blog post. Things like fresh information (aka 'news'), useful pointers, and original ideas make a good post. Excessive self-reference, self-indulgence, generalization and vagueness make a bad post.
Then again guidelines for basic quality can serve to hinder the risk-taking that is necessary to acheive greatness. I am but a dilettante, a hobbyist, with limited time and resources. My only edge over the professional music writers out there is my ability to do and say whatever I want, at any time. I can break any rule, tweak any formula, try any new idea. No one's going to stop me, because no one really cares.
Except me. I care. I don't like to put my name on mediocrity. Sometimes I have to, though. There is an overarching vision behind this blog. There's a particular structure that I am trying to build. Short-term sacrifices are often necessary for the sake of the final victory.
What I'm attempting to say here is that you can expect the unexpected from this quarter for the forseeable future. Consistency will not be on the menu. I've got some ideas that I want to try and some principles that I want to apply.
Experimentalism isn't just a word around here. It's the way we do things.
